Experiencing Strain and Stigma
A Rape Counselor’s Personal Mission
Seems Like Science Fiction
I am a survivor of sexual assault who has endometriosis. Both of these issues have inspired a passion in me to fight for all women to have the rights we deserve.
After I was raped, officials at my school told me it was my fault and brushed the issue under the rug.
My battle with endometriosis has been difficult. I have had too many doctors ignore my pain, claiming it was just normal period pain.
I have seen firsthand how the systems in place right now limit the choices women have to control their own bodies. I have been denied treatment for endometriosis because I refuse to try a dangerous medication that may not help at all.
As women, we are expected to keep quiet about any issues we have regarding reproductive health, but our bodies should not be shameful.
My mission in life is to do all that I can to bring about equality for women, particularly when it comes to reproductive health issues.
It would be an honor to have a chance to speak to our leaders about how they are hurting all women with the policies that are in place.
